BioFire® FilmArray® Panels

Comprehensive Panels and Better Diagnostics

Comprehensive panels take out the guess work, giving laboratories and healthcare providers a higher probability of identifying pathogens associated with infectious disease. Designed with the syndromic approach in mind, each panel can detect a broad grouping of probable pathogenic causes in a single, rapid test.

The BioFire Panels test for viruses, bacteria, parasites, yeast, and antimicrobial resistance genes. Whether you’re trying to select appropriate therapy for a septic patient or determine exactly which respiratory pathogen is making a young child sick, the BioFire® FilmArray® Systems can return answers fast. RP PanelThe BioFire® Respiratory 2.1 (RP2.1) Panel

Sample Type: Nasopharyngeal swab

22 Targets in One Test

The BioFire RP2.1 Panel uses a syndromic approach to accurately detect and identify the pathogens most commonly associated with respiratory infections. Fast and comprehensive, the BioFire RP2.1 Panel offers a run time of about 45 minutes, enabling high efficiency and throughput on the BioFire® FilmArray® 2.0 and the BioFire® FilmArray® Torch Systems. Rapid respiratory PCR test results may enable better-informed diagnosis and treatment of patients.

RP PanelThe BioFire® Respiratory 2.1-EZ (RP2.1-EZ) Panel (EUA)*

Sample Type: Nasopharyngeal swab or saline

19 Targets in One Test

The BioFire RP2.1-EZ Panel (EUA) tests for a comprehensive set of 4 respiratory bacteria and 15 respiratory viruses, including SARS-CoV-2. The BioFire RP2.1-EZ Panel (EUA) is designed to run the CLIA-waived BioFire® FilmArray® 2.0 EZ Configuration System.

*This product has not been FDA cleared or approved, but has been authorized for emergency use by FDA under an EUA for use by authorized laboratories; This product has been authorized only for the detection and differentiation of nucleic acid of SARS-CoV-2 from multiple respiratory viral and bacterial organisms; and, The emergency use of this product is only authorized for the duration of the declaration that circumstances exist justifying the authorization of emergency use of in vitro diagnostics for detection and/or diagnosis of COVID-19 under Section 564(b)(1) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, 21 U.S.C. § 360bbb-3(b)(1), unless the declaration is terminated or authorization is revoked sooner.

BCID PanelThe BioFire® Blood Culture Identification 2 (BCID2) Panel

Sample Type: Positive Blood Culture

43 Targets in One Test

The BioFire BCID2 Panel tests for 43 targets associated with bloodstream infections, including gram-negative bacteria, gram-positive bacteria, yeast, and 10 antimicrobial resistance genes—all with one test and with results available in about an hour from positive blood culture. Quickly identifying the cause of bloodstream infections and sepsis may help clinicians more rapidly and appropriately manage therapy. Rapid identification of bloodstream pathogens and relevant antimicrobial resistance genes can help reduce the time to appropriate antimicrobial therapy and may positively impact patient survival.

GI PanelThe BioFire® FilmArray® Gastrointestinal (GI) Panel

Sample Type: Stool in Cary Blair

22 Targets in One Test

The BioFire GI Panel tests for a comprehensive set of 22 gastrointestinal pathogens. The BioFire GI Panel tests stool specimens for common pathogens associated with gastroenteritis. Quickly identifying the correct pathogen can ensure appropriate treatment, improve patient management, and help detect infectious gastroenteritis which can lead to severe illness or death.

The BioFire® FilmArray® Meningitis/Encephalitis (ME) Panel

Sample Type: Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF)

14 Targets in One Test

The BioFire ME Panel tests for a comprehensive set of 14 bacteria, viruses, and yeast. The BioFire ME Panel identifies the most common viral, bacterial, and yeast pathogens that cause infections in the central nervous system, which in some cases can be life-threatening. The diagnosis of meningitis and encephalitis can allow faster decisions on appropriate therapy to be made to prevent complications.

The BioFire® FilmArray® Pneumonia (PN) Panel

Sample Type: BAL: (including mini-BAL)
Sputum: (including endotracheal aspirate)

33 Targets in One Test

The BioFire PN Panel identifies 33 clinically relevant targets from sputum (including endotracheal aspirate) and bronchoalveolar lavage (including mini-BAL) samples. For 15 of the bacteria, the BioFire Pneumonia Panel provides semi-quantitative results, which may help determine whether an organism is a colonizer or a pathogen.

The BioFire® Joint Infection (JI) Panel

Sample Type: 0.2 mL of synovial fluid

39 Targets in One Test

The BioFire JI Panel tests for a comprehensive grouping of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeast, and antimicrobial resistance genes most often associated with joint infections. The BioFire JI Panel may help reduce time to effective therapy through rapid pathogen identification.
